Korean gals have such enviable skin. And mandelic acid is one of their secrets. Click to learn more about this daily exfoliant derived from bitter almonds.

You know, there’s a reason Korean women have such enviable skin. After all, they do take their skincare routine quite seriously. And using Mandelic Acid is definitely one of their secrets. I was introduced to K-Beauty by my friend Donah, from Sweet Jelly Bean (you really need to check her Insta @sweetjellybean5 if you’re into beauty and great photography…just sayin’) and after trying the first product-mandelic acid- I was hooked for good.

What is mandelic acid?

Mandelic acid is an aromatic alpha hydroxy acid (chemistry flashbacks to high school, anyone?) with the molecular formula…Lol, just kidding πŸ˜‚Β I’m not going to start writing formulas I can barely understand. I did get straight A’s in chemistry class back in high school; I wonder how I pulled that off πŸ€” Anyway, back to the important stuff. Mandelic is derived from the German word “mandel”, which means “almond”. Because duh!-it is obtained by heating an extract of bitter almonds, with diluted hydrochloric acid. Ok, enough with the chemistry stuff, for now, I promise.

Oki dok, so after the super short chemistry lesson, what is mandelic acid used for in skincare? This clear liquid is a mild exfoliator and hence, can be used DAILY. Did you read that? Yes, daily! πŸ™‚ The Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water is a hydrating and nonirritating exfoliant. This means it can be used in sensitive skins, aka me. I have super sensitive skin and this little wonder has never irritated my skin, so extra points for that.

This prep water improvesΒ skin tone and texture while boosting the effectiveness of other products. Hands down to this daily exfoliant. πŸ™Œ

What you need to know (in case you want to skip the explanation above):

  • Low-irritation exfoliation
  • Helps with pigmentation to improve the skin tone and texture
  • Effective to treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties
  • Hydrates while providing mild exfoliation
  • Boosts the effectiveness of other skincare products since it preps your skin

Now, my favorite is the one from Wishtrend because:

1.) It’s a Korean brand and that pretty much is the synonym for an enviable skin.

2.) It contains vitamin B5, which acts as a humectant and moisturizer, improving the skin’s abilities to regenerate and to maintain hydration. And it also prevents inflammation.

3.) It has Centella Asiatica extract which helps regenerate damaged skin.

4.) It containsΒ Beta-Glucan which moisturizes, aids in redness reduction and has anti-inflammatory, and soothing effects.Β

5.) Last but not least, it contains Sodium Hyaluronate as a natural moisturizing factor. It attracts moisture and helps retain moisture within the skin, preventing dryness after exfoliating.

Benefits of Mandelic Acid. One of the best Korean skin care secrets for glass skin!

How to use Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water:

βž” After cleansing and before applying your toner, gently wipe and pat the product on your skin using a cotton pad. (These are my favorite cotton pads which leave no lint at all!)

βž” It is recommended to use it 2-3 times a week. But for me, I took the “daily” part very seriously and use it every day. It’s been over 3 months and happy to report there hasn’t been any irritation.

Now that I’m officially on the K-Beauty wagon, I’ll be testing over 10 Korean skincare products in the coming weeks πŸ™‚ Post coming soon. Let me know your thoughts on your comments below and if you have any questions about the Korean skincare routine you can DM me. Β Oh, and if you want to know some anti-aging tips check this out. Β  Cheers babes! 😘
