This Summer was a Summer of a lot of firsts for me. I had time for myself, to spoil myself and whatnot. The police pulled me over at Reno, I got to stand in the middle of U.S. Route 50 in Nevada, and so on. But as the Summer starts coming to an end, I started to wonder what I could do to have that I-feel-so-good feeling.

As I pondered about this, and I mean really ponder about it, I realized the various things I did involving self-care were the most gratifying. And I realized that those things could be done during weekdays, during normal weekdays. After all, it’s stuff that we usually do during weekends but during Summer we tend to have a bit more extra-time and include those activities during weekdays.

The point is Y’all, incorporating these things into your weekdays, once everything goes back to “normal”, makes the week a lot more enjoyable and brings some Summer weekend vibes to your weekdays.

So, without further ado, here’s what I did to ensure a never-ending weekend:

1. Masking

Yes! Masking. That’s right. Masking makes your skin prettier, healthier, and in turn, you feel better about yourself. Whether it’s a detox, energizing, hydrating or brightening mask, just choose the one you like best and incorporate that into your week. It will take up 10 minutes at most from your time, and you totally deserve those 10 minutes. You can wear the mask while doing dishes, laundry, meal-prepping… you get the idea. My favorite hydrating mask is this one and only takes 5 minutes of my time.

You can also alternate masks during the week if you’re up for it. Use, let’s say, a brightening mask on Mondays and a detox on Thursdays. Or, if you’re short on time, alternate a different mask for each week of the month.

The whole point is, don´t leave masking just for the weekends. Try to incorporate them into your week. Yes, it will take some organization on your behalf, but you will thank yourself for doing so later on.

2. Derma Rolling

Ok, so this kinda goes in hand with whole masking thing. I mean, derma rolling will amp the benefits of your skincare products. I use this derma roller every day and it literally only takes one minute of my time.

I’m not going to go in-depth here about all the derma roller benefits but here’s like the super short version:
a.) also called micro needling, it involves minuscule needles that trigger the production of collagen and elastin in the skin
b.) it prevents premature aging and helps diminish fine line and wrinkles
c.) helps diminish hyperpigmentation by shedding the topmost layer of skin and producing melanocyte
d.) helps reduce the size of enlarged pores.

And just so you know, no, it doesn’t hurt. I know the word “needles” sounds painful but it does not hurt. The skin might be a little irritated after using a derma roller (I have super sensitive skin and my face doesn’t get irritated) but if that happens, it’s normal.

So, do this every day. It will take one minute of your time and you will notice how your skin care products have a much-amplified effect and you’ll have even more beautiful skin.

With a derma roller, you can get beautiful skin EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
And yes, I promise to do a more in-depth post on micro needling.

3. Reading

This one is a no-brainer, right? But do try to stay away from blue light before bed. I prefer books, as in real, tangible I-can-smell-the-pages books. I usually do 15-20 minutes of reading before bed and try to stick to history-rich stories…not really that much into novels but you do you.

Reading helps reduce stress, it expands your vocabulary, and it helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease. You can read more about the benefits of reading here. I really don’t need to convince you about reading, right? Lol

a self-care guide on how to bring the weekend into your work days and reduce stress.

4. Movie Night

Don’t reserve this for just weekends or Fridays. See, I’m not a fan of Mondays, so to make Mondays more likable for me, I decided that every Monday, I would watch a new movie. And yes, some Mondays I’m too tired or too busy so I’ll watch a 30-min anything….sitcom, educational show, whatever I’m in the mood for.

These days we got Red Box, Netflix, Amazon…you name it. There are no excuses really. Doing this decreases my Monday’s stress (aka crankiness) and not only helps me look forward to Mondays but also preps me for the rest of the week (and you know, take my bitchy level down a bit, lol).

5. Chic lounging

Oh, yes! You have no idea the huge difference it makes to get home from work or running errands and then changing into lounging clothes, but really chic ones.

True bodysuits and bralettes (the True Weekend Racerback in coastal is one of my faves) are perfect for this. I add some chic pants and voilá! It will make you feel like you’re chilling on a weekend but in reality, it’s a weekday but totally rocks!

Being comfortable but chic makes a tremendous difference in how we feel about ourselves. It even improves our mood and helps us reduce all the day’s stress.

6. Dance

Now, I’m not talking about going out to dance but more like a dance in your living room kind of thing.

Let me explain. Go to youtube, yes, you read that right, and a find a tutorial on something you’d like to learn. I’ve tried samba, salsa, and lately, I’ve been watching ‘how to shuffling’ tutorials. Dancing eliminates a lot of stress and it’s super fun! Let’s not forget about the calories we burn when doing this.

This dancing activity requires no skills, just you wanting to have fun and get some weekend vibes. Find what you want to dance to, whether you know how to or not, and do at least 10 minutes. I promise you, you will have a blast!
